Dear customer,

We’d like to give you another update on the situation of container drayage service in Toronto/Montreal.

The congestion at CN/CP Toronto and Montreal yards have been going on since May, 2022. As far as we can see, the situation will be becoming worse before getting better, considering the winter and holiday season is around the corner.

All truckers still have been fully booked in the next 2 weeks. Thus, we urge all customers to send the orders to us as soon as the paperwork is received. We can’t guarantee to accept them if the containers are arriving at Toronto/Montreal within 2 weeks.

On average, the waiting time at CN/CP is still around 5-6 hours to pull one container. All truckers offer first 1 hour or 1.5 hours free and start charging waiting time at terminals.

Truckers still have difficulties to return empty containers back to carriers due to the limited capacity at CN/CP yards. So that is why they have to bring the empty containers to their yard until CN/CP or other depots have capacty to accept empties. That is how the re-delivery/pre-pull, yard storage, lift on/off occur.

Once again, due to the congestions and empty container return issues in Toronto and Montreal, all container drayage rates are still subject to below surcharges until further notice:

Rail storage, yard storage, demurrage, detention, pre-pull, waiting time at terminal (both laden container pickup and empty container return), shuttle fee from CN Brampton to CN Mississauga, lift on/off at trucker yard.

As always, we will do our best to deliver your containers on time and avoid unnecessary charges if possible.
