Important Update: 25% Surtax on Steel and Aluminum Imports from China into Canada
As of October 22, 2024, the Government of Canada will implement a 25% surtax on select steel and aluminum products imported from China. This surtax applies to goods that are deemed to be of Chinese origin according to the Determination of Country of Origin for the Purpose of Marking Goods Regulations.
Please be aware that this surtax will affect all products originating from China, even if they are shipped through another country, such as the United States. The key determining factor for the surtax is the country of origin, not the country of shipment.
Importantly, goods already in transit to Canada before the enforcement date will not be subject to the surtax. For a complete list of the impacted products, refer to the official notice issued by the Department of Finance Canada:

We strongly recommend that you review your current orders for these products to determine how the surtax may affect your imports.
Additional details about the administration of the surtax will be provided by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on their website before the surtax takes effect.
