Empty container return issues in Toronto, Canada
Dear customer,
In light of CN’s suspension in returning empty containers to their terminals due to the industry-wide congestion issue in Toronto, we have all been affected by the lack of capacity and space available to take in empty containers in depots and terminals. Unfortunately, since all major shipping lines are reliant upon the rail to bring their empties back to the West Coast, a CN service disruption means all shipping lines who run on this lane are rushing to look for empty return locations at the same time. As much as we want it, many depots in greater Toronto area are now operating at limiting capacity, up to a point where the depots are now closing down in light of safety consideration.
We apologize for this inconvenience and we have no choice but to ask our customer to further hold off on returning empty containers. For detention incurred because of this empty return suspension, we will do our best to request for detention waiver from shipping lines for the affected period involved. However, the additional charges incurred at trucker’s yard are still valid, such as re-delivery of empty containers (bring empty container back to trucker’s yard for temperary storage), life on/off, yard storage, etc.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
